
ON SUNDAY 6th July the second stage of the world famous Le Tour de
France Cycle Race passes Glossop and Hadfield at nearby Holme Moss and
Woodhead in Derbyshire.
Up to 40,000 people are expected to visit this scenic section of the Peak Park in the Longdendale Valley. The race caravan of vehicles preceding the cycles is expected through at around 13.00 with the cycles following at around 15.00. FOR ACCESS VIA GLOSSOP AND AREA
Travelling by train? Please note that the best station to access the race is HADFIELD. The first scheduled train on Sundays is not until 9.18 from Manchester Piccadilly arriving Glossop at 9.48 and Hadfield 9.57. You need to allow 2 to 3 hours to get to viewing points. You can either use the Shuttle bus (Return fare will be £4.00 for a "Day Ticket") running from 07.00 from Longdendale High School, Hollingworth picking up additionally from 09.00 onwards at Glossopdale Community College, Hadfield site (New Shaw Lane) to Crowden. Then there is still up to a mile to walk to various viewing areas near A6024 and Woodhead tunnel.
Alternatively walk/cycle direct from Hadfield Station using the Longdendale Trail. This will be very busy and you need to allow plenty of time to reach your intended viewing area - 2 to 3 hours to reach Woodhead Tunnel. Toilets, food facilities will be available at Welfare Hubs en route.
Northern Rail's published Sunday timetable for Manchester - Glossop - Hadfield applies, so please schedule this into your planning for the day. The trains from Hadfield to Manchester Piccadilly (Timetable) are half hourly 16.00,16.30 through until 20.30 - the last train being at 21.30. All trains serve Glossop.
There will also be extra shuttle bus pick up/drop offs at Hadfield station. The shuttle buses will start returning Crowden to Hollingworth via Hadfield as soon as the cycles have gone through at around 16.00. For a full bus shuttle timetable for the day click here.

Glossop's Manor Park In The Park Carnival is taking place on 5/6 July, the same weekend as Le Tour, so trains are likely to be very busy! On the Sunday there will be a big screen TV accessible to all in the park showing the race live. The weather will clearly play an important role in the event so please come prepared with appropriate rainwear/footwear if the forecast is poor.
