Following the Christmas Event at the Station a merry little band of Foggies as Graham calls us went on an evening excursion a few days later to Manchester Piccadilly Powerbox on a trip organised by Julian Gallagher. Most interesting! To witness the controllers and their displays covering the Airport and Wilmslow in the South to Blackburn in the North was a real insight into modern signalling. They had a major power failure a few months ago at 8.20 in the peak rush hour which caused every train to stop! So who in our little band put the lights out?? Answer - Penny!! She asked if she could go to the toilet and having been told the security code to exit worked the door perfectly but as she exited Penny switched the light switch off thus blacking out the illumination inside the box but fortunately not the signal panels! Consternation inside! Another power failure?? Then we realised it was Penny! We were all laughing as she returned much to her puzzlement and we explained what she had in innocence done! As one person said," Did you think you were going to bed Penny?" Fortunately no harm done but if you see Penny you might want to mention it!! Our thanks to Julian and the signallers.
Happy New Year from us all at FOGS!
