On Monday 13th May a group of young people on a Community Rail Project Work Scheme based in Northwich visited Glossop Station. The visit was organised and led by Sally Buttifant Mid Cheshire Commnity Rail Partnership Officer with Colleagues. On arrival refreshments were offered including Bunty Gibson's now famous Rocky Road cake! This proved a big hit! Local police officer Julian Gallagher gave an impromptu talk on policing in Glossop. As always Julian showed insight and humour. The young people were heard to comment that they would like to take Julian back to Northwich!! Neil and Penny then showed the visitors around the station. Neil pointed out historical features and areas that voulnteers had crerated such as the Embankment Garden. A previous visit of this group had been to King's Cross station where their guide had been Michael Portillo! It was good to learn that he is as affable as he appears on screen! Many photos weretaken and a very useful intrechange of ideas and good practice took place. The group left at 12. 39 to continue their tour at Manchester Victoria Station. We thank Sally for her interest and we hope the young people enjoyed their time in Glossop!
