In the Glossop Chronicle of the 17th January David Jones the Editor has produced an excellent feature on the recent National Railway Heritage Award - A Highly Commended - for Glossop Station. The feature is on page 10 of the paper and the photo taken at the ceremony - the Merchant Taylor Hall in London - is used to accompany the article and can also be seen on our Awards page on this site. In the picture are Tony Lowe from Network Rail, Alan Tidsell, Northern Rail's Head of Estates, John Ellis Chairman of The Railway Heritage Trust, Mike Rose from the High Peak and Hope Valley Community Rail Partnership and Neil Williams from FOGS. Neil gratefully acknowledges Mark Barker's help in getting the right names to faces for David - like a name that face in one quiz!! In the article David quotes extensively from the transcript used on the day at the Awards. The citation assessment reads: "the work undertaken at Glossop ranks as one of the finest examples of station regeneration. It reflects well on the dedication of all involved and has encouraged increased passenger traffic." FOGS is exploring the possibility, along with Northern and Derbyshire County Council, of erecting a plaque to mark the RHT award.
