Andrew Bingham, MP for High Peak, is to visit Dinting and Glossop Stations on Friday 7th November. He has been invited by Alison Bowry of Project Earth/ High Peak Community Arts and Neil Williams, Friends of Glossop station to view the ceramic murals at Dinting and the Embankment Garden at Glossop. Both projects were recently shortlisted in the national ACoRP community awards held earlier this month. We also hope to show him the commemorative World War One Poetry Platform display and the newly established Twig cafe.
The renewal of historic railings alongside Glossop station - Howard Street - has been completed by Haywood and Jackson contractors for Network Rail. The work has been carried out to a very high standard and we are delighted that the environs to the station have been enhanced in this way. We thank the 3 gentlemen of Haywood and Jackson and Network Rail for this work which is already receiving much local praise!
Recently announced by the DftT is the news that Abellio, one of Northern's Parent companies, has gained the new 10 year franchise for ScotRail as from May 2015. On Thursday 2nd October Alison Bowry from New Mills' Project Earth/ High Peak Community Arts and Neil from FOGS attended ACoRP's 10th Anniversary Awards' Ceremony In Scarborough. "Dinting in Ceramics" had been shortlisted for an award as had Friends of Glossop Station for their Embankment Garden. Unfortunately neither was successful in their respective categories in gaining a placing; the garden winners being Hindley - a fantastic garden! - Torquay and North Berwick. Locally Heaton Chapel gained a third for their Trompe l'oeil in the Community Arts' section. We offer our congratulations to Gerald Townson of Bentham for his deserved successes! The big winner of the evening was ScotRail named overall winner. We have sent our congratulations to our friend and supporter at ScotRail, John Yellowlees for guiding ScotRail to this community success!
On Saturday 27th September John K and Neil set off at 6.37 to make their way to Preston for the Northern stakeholder day out. A very imaginative itinerary had been put together by Northern's Craig Harrop which included a steam train ride on the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway, Boat trips on Windermere and a lunch at The Hydro Hotel in Bowness. Over 200 people were involved and it was really nice to catch up with friends and news from other stations Neil and Andy from Walkden, Angela from Freccles..... after a misty start to the day weather got better and the trip to Ambleside showed the Lake District's fells at their best! Alex Hynes, Northern's MD, addressed everyone at the Hotel and he spent time too discussing issues with individuals. It was a really good day out and we thank Northern for their organisation and hospitality. It was also good to have time to chat to some of Northern's most senior personnel and to renew acquaintances.
