![]() WE ARE DELIGHTED to report the installation of new for old historic railings on Howard Street adjoining and protecting the railway line! The 37 existing panels are now 102 years old and are very much showing their age! We have been actively campaigning for them to be replaced for several years and it is great to see the immaculate red and green new railings going up! Painting the original railings in 2007 was one of the first voluntary jobs - taking months to complete - that FOGS undertook. Our thanks to Network Rail for listening and responding to our concerns and to Pete Gaskell, in particular, for spearheading the drive to get new replacement railings in situ.
On Tuesday 23rd September Bunty and Neil changed all the flowerbox and basket arrangements from summer to autumn displays. It was Neil's first attempt at this and he appreciated Bunty's expert flower arranging advice! Mr Haider, Glossop Station's very pleasant and efficient ticket/security officer, helped in between checking tickets by "mending" alliums and sweeping up. And keeping us in good humour! Our thanks for this much appreciated assistance! We hope travellers through the station enjoy these new seasonal displays.
On Sunday 21st September over 500 daffodil bulbs were planted alongside the Embankment garden at Glossop station by the 6am Sunday morning FOGS' gardening team! The bulbs were kindly donated by members of Glossop's U3A following a talk Neil gave in the summer to them. We are very grateful to them and to Hazel, Sadie and Bernard for further cash and bulb donations. We hope to plant more bulbs, weather and time permitting, in October.
Our thanks as always to Network Rail for their ongoing supprt of our gardening work. We hope the daffodils will be a splash of colour in the Spring! |
