Chris from Kent recently traced his father's evacuee journey from Manchester to Glossop in 1939. Following on from that he made the same journey and a blog recounting that trip gives an interesting sight into what he found. Chris gratefully acknowledges help given by Glossop Heritage Trust.

On a rainy Sunday 4th July The Branch Line Society ran a special train originating in York at 8.44 to various destinations in North West England some of which rarely see locomotive hauled trains. These included Penistone, Rose Hill, Guide Bridge, Glossop and Hadfield.
Hauled by two DRS Class 37 engines in top and tail mode the ten coach train attracted a lot of attention en route. At Glossop bunting had been placed along the platform to welcome the train though a thunderstorm heralded its arrival too. The train remained in Glossop for about ten minutes before leaving to visit Hadfield. Afterwards it retraced its outward journey to Guide Bridge and then onto Crewe. From here back to Stockport, Guide Bridge,  New Mills, Chinley and the Hope Valley to Sheffield and York. We hope its passengers enjoyed their day!
