FOGS' next Community Rail event will be a TEDDY BEARS' PICNIC on Saturday 7th July between 11.00 and 13.00 at Glossop Station.The event is being organised with Friends of Broadbottom and Hattersley Stations - our first tripartite event! At each of the stations there will be light refreshments for the children/teddies and activities. At Glossop, Caroline England will present two of her very popular Storytelling sessions in the new Waiting Room and Glossop Model Railway Club will have a working layout. We also hope to have a craft table. Free train travel between the 3 stations from 11.00 to 13.00 has kindly been offered by Northern to teddies, children and one accompanying adult. We thank Theo for his help with this! Posters promoting the event designed by Paul Marsh will soon be on display as will handbills. Seek out the teddies and join us!
We have been informed that pigeon netting for the newly refurbished Canopy is definitely on its way!! Theo has given the night of June 30th for its installation. We hope then to have a cleaner platform but we await the pigeons' next move!!
On Wednesday 13th June at 7.30pm at the Central Methodist Church Glossop Glossop Heritage Trust will deliver another of their popular illustrated talks - A vital link -The Story of Glossop's Rail Service to Manchester. No admission charge! Matthew Cox of FOGS has kindly offered to set up a display featuring the work of Friends of Glossop Station. Do go along if you can!
Next Tuesday the 17th June is the AGM of FOGS at Glossop Station - 7.30pm. Everybody welcome! Agenda to include the election of officers and a report from Neil Williams, the Chairperson, on a year of significant change at the station. At the close of the AGM there will be a normal feedback meeting of current progress including the planning for the next event THE TEDDY BEARS' PICNIC on Saturday July 7th.
This Sunday the 17th FOGS go back on the Embankment with our saftey licence from Network Rail at 06.00 to continue work there. Eric has many new plants to add as does Neil and if the weather is dry John's buffer refurbishment will continue!
Emma Young has created a most attractive new Poetry display at the station on the theme of animals - famous poems including Upon a Snail, The Tiger, The Wild Swans at Coole, The Snake..........Bunyan, Lawrence, Keats.... names and poets to evoke memories! We hope you enjoy them! We thank Emma for her hard work on making them look so attractive too!
FOGS marked the Jubilee weekend with bunting in front of the new ticket office and a picture of the Queen over the old booking office. Neil put some flags in the outside baskets too! Matthew kindly put up two window presentations featuring pictures of Glossop at the start of the Queen's reign contrasting with today's views. These were well received! we have left some bunting up to cover the football and the Olympics - Union Jacks are very popular this year!
