Glossop Line Forum to be set up

20/5/2013

Comments

On Tuesday 14th May a meeting took place in Broadbottom with representatives from friends' groups at Broadbottom, Dinting, Glossop, Hadfield and Hattersley stations. The main purpose was to plan the Teddy Bears' Picnic event involving all 5 stations on Saturday 6th July. More details to follow on this.
Neil proposed forming a Glossop line forum to put forward our ideas on Trains, Timetabling and Station facilities. This, he felt, is especially important with refranchising in the offing and major projects such as the Northern Hub taking place. After thorough discussion the concept was agreed with the proviso that the forum be a place to put forward agreed shared ideas. It would not be a campaigning nor a political forum. Nor would it detract from the friends main purpose of enhancing their stations in agreement with Northern Rail.
It was agreed to met again in October to produce an informed wish list to be sent to Northern,The HPAHVCRP, TfGM and local councils. Paul Marsh kindly agreed to set up a dedicated web site for the forum so that local passengers could, if they wish, contribute their views. It was agreed that the High Peak and Hope Valley Community Rail Partnership, TfGM and Theo be informed of the Glossop Line Forum's imminent existence!

Northwich visitors to Glossop Station

On Monday 13th May a group of young people on a Community Rail Project Work Scheme based in Northwich visited Glossop Station. The visit was organised and led by Sally Buttifant Mid Cheshire Commnity Rail Partnership Officer with Colleagues. On arrival refreshments were offered including Bunty Gibson's now famous Rocky Road cake! This proved a big hit! Local police officer Julian Gallagher gave an impromptu talk on policing in Glossop. As always Julian showed insight and humour. The young people were heard to comment that they would like to take Julian back to Northwich!! Neil and Penny then showed the visitors around the station. Neil pointed out historical features and areas that voulnteers had crerated such as the Embankment Garden. A previous visit of this group had been to King's Cross station where their guide had been Michael Portillo! It was good to learn that he is as affable as he appears on screen! Many photos weretaken and a very useful intrechange of ideas and good practice took place. The group left at 12. 39 to continue their tour at Manchester Victoria Station. We thank Sally for her interest and we hope the young people enjoyed their time in Glossop!
