The Heritage colours of cream, green and red look stunning.
The final piece of the Glossop station refurbishment jigsaw was installed recently. Light can now be seen clearly flooding in through the glass canopy. Pigeons can once again nest comfortably.
The Heritage colours of cream, green and red look stunning. Occasionally rumours are started by people who should know better. The latest one doing the rounds is that Dinting Arches will close for 18 months, leaving Glossop, Hadfield and Dinting cut off from the rest of the world. Many on both sides of the arches would argue that that's a good thing.
However there is no truth in the rumour. Instead the arches are getting some TLC. These pictures by Glossop Artist James Chadderton now form the display inside the waiting room. They are more controversial in content than Tracy's work but we hope the prints get passengers talking!! And remind local artists/photographers of FOGS' willingness for this space to be used by them. We ask them to get in touch via the website if they would like to get their work on display. We thank Stephen Flanagan from the Framery on High Street East, Glossop for printing the canvases and his support - prints can be obtained from Stephen. Also thanks as always to Simon Denvers for putting up the canvases and for managing the Station Gallery and maintaining ongoing links with local artists. Matthew Cox will be having his own display featuring Glossop station in the past on the wall between the waiting rooms. This will be changed regularly. Matthew is also working on a Storyboard project on behalf of Northern for selected stations on the Glossop Line - more details soon!
The Sky is the Limit!!
Well not quite!! Story Rail and Network Rail have now installed the new glazing for the Canopy skylights and for those inside the main concourse. The effect is simply stunning!! Stark grey metal surrounds complement clear glazing creating the most light the Canopy has ever had - everybody is looking up!! FOGs thanks Chris fom Story dnd Karen from Network Rail for their pesverance with this part of the refurbishment project and their ongiong patient negotitions with the Conservation Officer at High Peak Borough Council. The results are worth it!! Do go and have a look!! The train now arriving at Platform One!!
As of last weeek the new PA system for Glossop Station has been installed!! We have waited patiently for 2 years for this! The system is excellent and it now means that out of course running, cancellations etc can be broadcast. It is not the intention to announce every train! Dave and Graham have made several useful announcements including polite warnings for passengers infringing station rules! We thank the High Peak and Hope Valley Community Rail Partnership for funding the equipment. Jean Wharmby hopes to view it soon and we will issue an invite to Mike Rose to do the same. CONDOLENCES
Friends of Glossop Station would like to offer their sincere condolences to the family and friends of Kenneth Stott who died outside the station last Saturday evening. |
