Now it may seem a little ironic after some of the problems that the weather has caused this winter that the theme of our new poetry display is Water in the Landscape!! We hope however, to show that water can be admired and enjoyed through words and imagination.

Penny Greenwood has selected some well known and loved poems. These include The Lake Isle of Innisfree by Yeats, The Lady of Shalott by Tennyson, Dover Beach by Matthew Arnold and Lines Composed a Few Miles above Tintern Abbey by Wordsworth. Sure to evoke a few happy childhood memories is the inclusion of Wynken, Blynken and Nod by Eugene Field! In recognition that 2016 is the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare's death Penny has included Full Fathom Five from his play The Tempest.
Paul Marsh has again created and designed this eye catching display. He has also included some interesting biographical information about the poets.
We hope regular passengers and visitors enjoy this new selection of poems!
We thank Penny and Paul for their interest and commitment to The Poetry Platform.

The case of the disappearing doors at Glossop Station!

No it's not the latest Agatha Christie mystery! Yes the external doors at Glossop Station and the glass panels above have vanished! But to reassure users, locals and visitors this was a planned move by Northern!
The doors are being refurbished and, on their return, will operate automatically in conjunction with a new sensor. The doors leading to the platform will be treated similarly.
As a listed building the plans for these changes have been scrutinised carefully and we thank Joanne Brooks, High Peak Borough Council's Conservation Officer, for her invaluable advice in ensuring the changes will match the two existing external doors - one alongside the entrance and the other at the entrance to the Coop. It is hoped the doors will be back in place in the near future.
The investment is part of a wider plan by Northern to improve facilities. Dinting station has recently benefited from a new ticket office window/counter and automatic doors. Electronic train information and announcements have helped passengers use the correct platform. Dinting has 2 platforms served by bi-directional services. Similar improvements have been made at Broadbottom. The clarity of electronic information and announcements has been much appreciated by users of Broadbottom as mobile phone coverage can be problematic. We thank Northern for this ongoing investment.
