For Glossop the nomination is for THE EMBANKMENT GARDEN in the Best Station Garden Category. Created three years ago by Friends of Glossop station the garden has attracted a lot of attention from local travellers and visitors. We have been delighted with the way it has matured and become a focal point! What is unusual is that the small band of FOGS' gardeners who tend it work under a safety licence from Network Rail. This means access once a month on a Sunday between 06.00 and 09.00 when no trains are running. So a lot has to be done in a short space of time!! We owe sincere thanks to Pete Gaskell, Russell Pike, Andy Hannan and Mike Franklin from Network Rail for their ongoing support and assistance in organising this access to the garden.
For Dinting the nomination is for DINTING IN CERAMICS a project developed by Project Earth as part of High Peak Commnity Arts. Spearheaded by Alison Bowry and Glossop Ceramicist Adrian Holt, they worked with vulnerable High Peak adults to create 5 pieces of ceramics reflecting Dinting station and its environs. The pieces were installed to considerable local acclaim by Alan Menzies and members of Friends of Glossop station in June. The category is Community Art Schemes.
