Final push on the banking

Today a historic milestone was achieved in Glossop.  The last sod of grass was removed from the station banking by one Mr Eric Pass of Whitfield.  A man of few words, Mr Pass said simply, "Glad that's done".

Eric then magiced up a wall from some spare stone he found lying around.

Meanwhile Bunty was installing extra planters along the platform.

Neil has been busy with a paintbrush this week, painting half the station it would seem.  The old booking window has been re-varnished, and the door surrounds re-glossed.

We've been very busy at the station over the last couple of weekends.  In addition to the usual cleaning duties, last weekend a party got stuck into the banking again, weeding and planting.

Last Monday, a small party of FoGS members painted the front doors at the station.  The station entrance looks quite smart now.

Today a bunch of intrepid volunteers lugged a load of extra sleepers onto the banking, as well as doing more planting and tidying.  In addition to the usual cleaning tasks, the buffer was given a coat of finest white gloss paint.

A trial of a new planter has been installed half way along the platform.

Before the first train arrives on Sunday, FoGS members turn up to give the station a bit of TLC.  After the cleaning, Neil and John K get busy planting the side garden.

Weekend work

The good news - at the last minute we were promised access to the banking opposite the platform again for the next three Sundays.  This meant we could finish off the work we started a few weeks back - planting, weeding, tidying.

The bad news - the forms haven't been signed off yet so we're not allowed access on 17th July.

The 24th and 31st July should still be OK.
